Hi! My name is Hana, I’m 20 years old and I’m from Indonesia. I’m currently in the final stage of my Actuarial Science degree at Universitas Gadjah Mada, one of the leading universities in Indonesia.

I’ve always wanted to experience living abroad, and I feel like this is the right time in my life to do it. I’m still young, I don’t have a family of my own yet, and I want to see and experience the world before I fully enter the working life and become a corporate girl for the rest of my life haha. ?? I want to experience living in a different country, meet people from different backgrounds, learn a new culture and language, and become more independent along the way. For me, being an au pair feels like a really meaningful way to do that because I wouldn’t just be visiting a country as a tourist. I would actually become part of a family and experience everyday life there.

I also genuinely enjoy being around children. I have three nieces, aged 13, 8, and 6, and I’m quite close to all of them. I’m especially close to my oldest niece. Even though she is technically my niece, I’ve always thought of her more like a little sister because we grew up together. She often stays over at my house, and we usually just spend time talking, playing, riding bicycles, baking, or doing whatever we feel like that day. I’m also close to my two younger nieces. One funny example is when I had to spend my own birthday accompanying my youngest niece to a colouring competition. I ended up sitting among all the mothers while being the youngest person there! ?? It was actually quite fun, and it reminded me how naturally I enjoy spending time with children.

I’ve also tutored Maths for elementary and middle school students, so I’m comfortable helping children with homework and explaining things patiently. I can cook simple meals, do light household chores, ride a bicycle, and I’m used to taking care of myself because I have been living away from my family for university.

As a person, I would describe myself as calm, responsible, and quite low-maintenance. I’m honestly not the type who likes trouble or complicated situations. Among my friends, I’m usually the “good kid” who just goes home, does her own thing, and stays out of drama. ?? I know that choosing an au pair is also about trust, especially when you’re welcoming someone you’ve never met before into your home. I may not have formal au pair experience yet, but I hope a host family can get to know me as a genuine, respectful, and trustworthy person who will treat their home and children with care.

What I’m hoping for is not simply a place to stay abroad. I would love to build a good relationship with my host family, become someone the children feel comfortable with, help make everyday life a little easier for the parents, and at the same time experience what life in another country is really like.
